Fireproofing Applier Wins DuPont Photo Contest

The online "Dirty Work" contest invited workers to submit photos of themselves after they completed dirty jobs while wearing Tyvek garments.

DuPont Protection Technologies last week announced that Joel Turner of Ontario, Canada, won the grand prize in its “Dirty Work” online photo contest, which asked entrants to submit photos of themselves after they finished dirty jobs while wearing Tyvek® garments.

Other winners were Robert Maddox of DeRidder, La., Dennis Rains of Hixson, Tenn., and James White of Gonzales, Texas.

"My job is very dirty: spraying fireproofing material on steel," Turner said. "The mud we spray gets everywhere and it is wet, thick, and can harm your skin. In my job, I help keep buildings safe from collapse in case of fire. In turn, Tyvek® is my lifesaver. It helps keep me dry and limits the amount of harmful sludge that contacts my skin."

Maddox won first prize for his photo taken after he cleaned a rail car. Rains "was covered nearly head to toe after cleaning out solids precipitated from a sulfuric acid pickling tank," according to DuPont. White's photo showed him after he changed out drums at an oil refinery.
