UAB and ASSP Partner on AI Safety Certificate

A new educational partnership aims to bridge the gap between high-tech innovation and frontline workplace protection.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham and the American Society of Safety Professionals have launched the Applied AI for EHS Certificate, a professional education program for environmental health and safety professionals.

The eight-week online program covers AI literacy, tool evaluation, design of AI-enabled solutions, hazard identification, risk assessment and governance of automated systems.

Instructors are Marla Corson, an adjunct professor at UAB and founder of Corson Consulting & Speaking, and Nia Jetter, a senior principal technologist in robotics AI at Amazon.

Enrollment is limited to 40 students per cohort. The first cohort begins June 22, followed by sessions starting Aug. 31 and Jan. 25, 2027. Completers receive an ASSP certificate and digital badge.
