NIOSH Signs MOU with National Fire Protection Association

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health will work with the National Fire Protection Association to improve the safety of emergency responders using technology.

NIOSH signed an updated MOU in collaboration with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Fire Protection Research Foundation on October 22.

The new MOU is a 10-year agreement. It pertains to activities related to emergency responder PPE and the development of standards that concern first responder safety, deployment, operations and the protection of emergency personnel.

“The NFPA is a critical partner in NIOSH’s efforts to protect emergency responders from hazards encountered in the line of duty,” said NIOSH Director John Howard, MD. “Renewing the MOU affords us the opportunity for sustained collaboration over the next decade to improve responders’ safety and health.”

NIOSH is working with the NFPA to develop standards for emergency responder PPE to protect them from physical, chemical, biological and inhalation hazards, among others.

The MGC Simple Plus is a simple-to-use, portable multi-gas detector that runs continuously for three years without needing to be recharged or routinely calibrated after its initial charge and calibration during manufacturing. The detector reliably tests a worksite’s atmosphere for hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, oxygen and combustible gases (LEL). Additionally, it is durable enough to withstand the harshest treatment and environments, which is why it has an IP 68 rating. The MGC Simple Plus is also compatible with a variety of accessories, such as Gas Clip Technologies’ new GCT External Pump. Visit gascliptech.com for more information. 3
