A local musical instrument operations facility has secured a workplace safety honor after operating for a long period without a major injury.
The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration presented the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health to the Gibson Operations Center. Employees at the Nashville site handle the loading, inspection, packing and shipping of the company's products globally.
The facility achieved the milestone by logging 412,463 consecutive hours without a lost-time or restricted-duty workplace injury or illness.
The Governor’s Award of Excellence is designed to recognize Tennessee employers and workers who maintain exceptional safety records. To qualify, a facility must log a specific number of hours—determined by the total size of the company's workforce—without any injuries or illnesses severe enough to cause missed workdays or restricted job duties.
State officials noted that the evaluation criteria for the award are stringent, requiring companies to actively meet and exceed baseline regulatory standards to qualify.
