AIHA, ACGIH Continue Work on Alliance

DENVER -- The two professional associations for industrial hygienists that host this big annual conference and expo, AIHA and ACGIH, continue to work on their strategic alliance announced one year ago.

The organizations provided an update on their progress since the May 2009 announcement of their alliance to continue development of occupational exposure guidelines. As originally proposed, AIHA would be an IH member association and ACGIH would be a non-member scientific organization.

Later in 2009, ACGIH offered an alternative approach in which several OSH professional associations whose members are concerned with continuing the occupational exposure guidelines would provide funding to ACGIH. Both AIHA and ACGIH said AIHA “participated in ACGIH’s direct discussions with key professional associations to gauge interest.” Those discussions are expected to continue for a few more months, they said in statements released May 19.
