ExxonMobil Houston Project Passes 7-Million-Hour Milestone

The company said the construction passed that mark without a lost-time injury among employees or contractors.

ExxonMobil announced May 9 that the construction of its Houston campus has surpassed 7 million work hours without any injury requiring employees or contractors to miss work. "This milestone is the result of work by a team that is highly focused and pays attention to personal and team safety," Mark Tressler, execution manager for the ExxonMobil campus project team, said in the company's news release. "We want everyone on the site to work safe so that they can go home safe."

Nearly 20 buildings are under construction by a joint venture of Gilbane Building Company and Harvey Builders named Gilbane-Harvey that is the general contractor for the project. It's one of the largest construction projects in the country at the moment, with about 3,000 workers on site daily, according to the release, which says construction began in 2011 and full occupancy by about 10,000 employees will occur in 2015.
