Art, Science of Welding Focus of Conference

The art and science of welding will be the focus of the eighth International Conference on Trends in Welding Research, to be held June 1-6 at the Callaway Gardens Resort in Pine Mountain, Ga.

Sponsored by ASM International and co-sponsored by American Welding Society, this five-day event brings together a “who's who” in fundamental and applied welding, featuring experts from 25 countries.

"As global industries, governments and universities have placed an increased emphasis on basic and applied research in many welding-related fields, we have assembled a comprehensive program encompassing basic and applied research in both experimental and modeling work," said conference co-chair Dr. Stan A. David, FASM, Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Topics include friction stir welding; microstructure; phase transformations; properties and structural integrity of weldments; residual stress and distortion; sensing, control, and automation; solidification; transport phenomena; weldability; welding processes, procedures, and consumables; and other experimental and modeling investigations.

More than 200 technical papers from industry, universities, industrial research laboratories, and national laboratories will be presented. An accompanying exposition features welding power supplies, automatic welders, manual welding equipment, analytical instruments, and welding software.
