National Whistleblower Day Highlights Worker Protections Against Retaliation

OSHA reminds employers and workers that federal whistleblower laws help protect employees who report safety concerns and other unlawful conduct.

National Whistleblower Day is being observed July 30 to recognize individuals who report misconduct, fraud, corruption and other unlawful practices in the workplace.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Whistleblower Protection Program enforces 25 federal whistleblower statutes that protect workers from retaliation when they report safety hazards, violations or other protected concerns.

OSHA said retaliation against employees is illegal and can discourage workers from exercising their rights, potentially affecting workplace safety and business operations. The agency encourages employers to establish effective anti-retaliation programs that promote open communication, strengthen workplace culture, improve employee engagement and help identify issues before they escalate.
