After many months of online virtual events, safety professionals have an opportunity to learn, network, and meet with manufacturers in-person this September at the American Society of Safety Professionals' Safety 2021 Professional Development Conference and Exposition. According to the Society, registration is now open for those interested in attending the event in Austin, Texas on Sept. 13 - 15 later this year.
The conference and exposition will not carry on without many safeguards in place to help curb the transmission of COVID-19, however.
“Expect a conference experience that is mindful of the public safety and health challenges we continue to face,” said ASSP President Deborah Roy, M.P.H., RN, COHN-S, CSP, CIT, FASSP, FAAOHN. “We are working diligently with facility management to provide safe opportunities for members and other safety professionals to learn and reconnect with one another to enhance their careers.”
Attendees of the in-person Safety 2021 conference can expect to see contactless registration, physical distancing, designated entrances and exits, one-direction aisles, seating limits in meeting rooms and frequent cleaning of common areas. ASSP has also decided to host a variety of food trucks for outdoor eating.
The Society said that under it's current plan, in-person attendees will need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the event. Other protocols currently include mandatory face coverings at the convention center and main conference hotel, but this could change as ASSP keeps an eye on the ever-changing public health landscape and guidances from the CDC.
For those that are not interested in attending an in-person event just yet, ASSP encourages attendees to look into their virtual component of the show which will allow participants entrance to the event digitally. According to a press release, "ASSP will enhance the in-person event at the Austin Convention Center with an engaging virtual component that features mobile compatibility for unprecedented access. While parts of the conference will be livestreamed from Austin, the education and networking opportunities will be tailored to the needs of in-person and online attendees."
