NTP Draft Reports to Be Reviewed April 5

The public meeting where a National Toxicology Program Peer Review Panel will review three draft Technical Reports, including one for acrylamide, will be webcast.

An April 5 public meeting has been scheduled where a National Toxicology Program Technical Reports Peer Review Panel will review the findings and conclusions of three draft Technical Reports of toxicology and carcinogenesis studies in conventional or genetically modified rodent models. One report is on four AIDS therapeutics drugs and another concerns acrylamide, which occurs naturally in the cooking of some foods but also is used industrially in dyes, papermaking, and other applications. Acrylamide is a solid and a possible carcinogen for which the OSHA PEL is 0.3 mg/m3 as a TWA (skin) and the NIOSH IDLH concentration is 60 mg/m3.

The draft Technical Reports should be available for public comment by Feb. 25, and the deadline to submit written comments is March 22. March 29 is the deadline for pre-registration to attend the meeting and/or provide oral comments there.

The meeting will be held at National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences facilities in Research Triangle Park, N.C. (the Rodbell Auditorium, Rall Building, 111 T. W. Alexander Drive).

Public comments or other correspondence on the drafts should be sent to Danica Andrews, NIEHS, P.O. Box 12233, MD K2-03, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709, fax 919-541-0295, or [email protected].
