  • New World Record: Stop, Drop, and Roll

    Iowa State Fire Marshal Ray Reynolds hatched the idea in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the State Fire Marshal Division, as a way to promote fire safety.

    This State Farm video was shot in Des Moines, Iowa, on Aug. 21, 2011, during the Iowa State Fair. It shows more than 1,500 people participating in a simultaneous stop, drop, and roll practice session on cardboard spread out on the fair's Grand Concourse. State Farm reports this broke the prior record, 602 participants, which was set in 2003 by the Bedford, Indiana Fire Department. Iowa State Fire Marshal Ray Reynolds hatched the idea in celebration of the State Fire Marshal Division's 100th anniversary, as a way to promote fire safety. "I thought, I'm going to do something that requires everybody to get involved," Reynolds said. "You're never too old to Stop, Drop, and Roll." more
