The American Society of Safety Professionals has scheduled a meeting to examine how workplaces identify and manage hazardous energy risks as part of its efforts to prevent serious injuries and fatalities.
Master Lock will host the discussion at its headquarters in Deerfield, Illinois. Participants will review research and feedback from safety practitioners, with attention to control verification, system design, alternative measures and new technologies.
The Energy Wheel and High Energy Control Assessment will be among the tools considered, alongside ASSP standards.
Earlier meetings in Chicago and Washington addressed falls and lockout/tagout failures, emphasizing how to apply safety practices where work occurs.
The discussion also follows ASSP’s participation in a national prevention alliance with OSHA and other safety organizations.
Findings will guide the society’s development of resources and standards-based tools. Further work will involve its Standards-Based User Groups and input from practitioners.
