NFPA Takes Fire Prevention Week Safety Message to NASCAR

The National Fire Protection Association is partnering with NASCAR driver Joey Gase to promote lithium-ion battery safety during Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 4-10.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is teaming up with NASCAR driver Joey Gase to promote safe charging practices for devices powered by lithium-ion batteries during two upcoming races.

The partnership supports the 2026 Fire Prevention Week theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower,” which focuses on steps people can take to reduce fire risks associated with rechargeable batteries and devices.

Gase will drive the No. 55 car featuring a Fire Prevention Week paint scheme during the Focused Health 302 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Oct. 3. He will return for the Blue Cross NC 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Oct. 10.

“Race weekends bring together hundreds of thousands of NASCAR fans and families who use rechargeable batteries every day,” Lorraine Carli, NFPA vice president of Outreach and Advocacy, said in the announcement. “These races give us a chance to share a simple reminder: The way you charge your devices can help prevent a fire.”

NFPA and Gase have worked together since 2023 to promote fire and life safety messages to NASCAR audiences.
