NIOSH Awards $8.5 Million for Occupational Safety and Health Training

The five-year award will support continued training through the Mountain and Plains Education and Research Center through 2031.

Graduate and postgraduate students preparing for careers in workplace safety and health will receive continued training through an $8.5 million award from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

The funding will support the Mountain and Plains Education and Research Center, which provides training in occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, occupational ergonomics and safety, health physics, and occupational health psychology.

Four of the center's academic programs operate at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Its occupational and environmental medicine program is based at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. The center also offers an online certificate program in Total Worker Health.

The center serves Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Montana and Wyoming. Its programs include interdisciplinary instruction, workplace visits and practical training focused on health and safety issues affecting workers and employers.
