Alcohol Misuse and Mental Health Risks Draw Attention in Construction
The program will cover suicide risk, stigma and support resources for construction workers and their families.

A Sept. 22 webinar from the Voluntary Protection Programs Participants' Association (VPPPA) will examine how alcohol can affect mental and physical health, including its potential role in suicide risk. The session begins at 2 p.m. ET.
Titled "Rethink the Drink," the webinar will focus on the construction industry, where substance misuse and workplace attitudes toward alcohol can create challenges for workers seeking support.
Emily Groves, outreach engagement coordinator for Lines for Life, will lead the presentation. Topics will include the health risks associated with alcohol misuse, the relationship between alcohol and suicide risk, and ways to reduce the stigma surrounding requests for help.
The Construction Suicide Prevention Partnership will also share substance misuse and mental health resources for workers, co-workers and families. Interactive activities and discussions will address how the information can be applied on and off construction sites.
The webinar is being held during National Recovery Month. Registration is available through VPPPA.
