3M Sells Prescription Eyewear Business to HOYA Vision Care

3M announced Jan. 3 that it has completed the sale of its safety prescription eyewear business to HOYA Vision Care, describing the buyer as a "global leader in the eyeglass lens industry." HOYA Corporation is a Japanese multinational; HOYA Vision Care's North American headquarters are located in Lewisville, Texas.

3M's announcement said the safety prescription eyewear business it has sold "provides a comprehensive line of frames, prescription lenses, and premium coating options in a custom-made solution" and has annual global sales of approximately $45 million. It was part of 3M's Personal Safety Division in the 3M Safety & Graphics Business.

Based in St. Paul, Minn., 3M will host its fourth quarter 2016 earnings conference call on Jan. 24.
