Connecticut Manufacturing Worker Dies After Electrocution

A 25-year-old employee died following an electrical incident during equipment maintenance at a Berlin manufacturing facility.

A joint investigation is underway by Connecticut safety officials and local police after a 25-year-old worker was fatally electrocuted while performing routine maintenance at a manufacturing plant in Berlin.

The incident occurred on Oct. 29 at the TIGHITCO manufacturing facility located at 245 Old Brickyard Lane. According to statements released by the Berlin Police Department, the worker sustained a severe electrical shock while working on a piece of industrial equipment.

Emergency dispatch logs indicate first responders were called to the scene at 8:12 a.m. following reports of an unresponsive worker. Plant employees initiated CPR and prepared an automated external defibrillator (AED) before emergency personnel arrived.

First responders took over medical care and transported the worker to a local hospital under advanced life support. Interim Berlin Police Chief Shawn Solek confirmed the worker passed away from his injuries the following day, on Oct. 30.

Authorities have not publicly released the employee's identity.

Police notified the Connecticut Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CT-OSHA) of the incident on the day of the accident. CT-OSHA investigators and Berlin police detectives are currently conducting a joint review to determine the cause of the equipment failure and ensure compliance with workplace safety standards.
