Nearly $2 Million Available to Help Virginia Coal Miners Affected by Layoffs

The money will provide reemployment services in emerging and growing fields.

The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $1,965,730 to the Virginia Community College System in order to help provide re-employment services required by coal industry workers to prepare for jobs in emerging fields, according to a DOL announcement.

The funds are expected to serve 210 workers affected by layoffs by providing career services and training for jobs in advanced manufacturing, as well as adventure tourism and outdoor recreation.
