$4.5 Million Awarded to Reduce Child Labor in Cocoa-Growing Communities

The International Cocoa Initiative has been awarded $4.5 million in order to implement a project that would help reduce child labor in cocoa-growing communities within Côte d'Ivoire. According to a U.S. Department of Labor news release, the "Eliminating Child Labor in Cocoa" project will assist 50 cocoa-growing communities in Côte d'Ivoire to design and create Community Action Plans.

The project will support the protection of at least 5,450 children engaged in or at risk of child labor by giving them formal and non-formal educational opportunities.
