Five More Deepwater Drilling Forums Planned
The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement began this series of public forums Aug. 4 in New Orleans, then moved on to Mobile, Ala., and Pensacola, Fla. Comments are being accepted until Sept. 30.
A series of public forums to hear from local officials, industry experts, environmentalists, and the general public about deepwater drilling, rig workers' safety, well containment, and oil spill response is nearing the halfway point, with five more meetings to be scheduled.
The forums began Aug. 4 in New Orleans, went on to Mobile, Ala. (Aug. 10), and Pensacola, Fla. (Aug. 11), and will continue in Santa Barbara, Calif.; Anchorage, Alaska; Houston; Biloxi, Miss.; and Lafayette, La. Comments are being accepted until Sept. 30.
The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement and its director, Michael Bromwich, are conducting the meetings. Bromwich will use the information and comments in deciding whether to recommend modifying the deepwater drilling suspensions now in effect.
