New Guideline Helps Employers Respond to DHS Threat Levels

The ASIS Commission on Standards and Guidelines has released the second edition of the Threat Advisory System Response Guideline, which outlines security measures that private-sector organizations may want to implement during elevated alert levels announced by the Department of Homeland Security. The guideilne is divided into four major sections that correspond to threat levels, with each section including the three subcategories emergency response/business continuity; personnel protection; and physical protection.

This expanded guideline includes items such as preparations for people with special needs or disabilities, training protocols, and emergency equipment such as first aid kits. It is available for download at www.asisonline.org/guidelines/guidelinesthreat.pdf.

The first TASR Guideline was published in 2004. ASIS guidelines are re-evaluated and updated, if necessary, every three years.
