ASSE Central Florida Chapter Names Local Safety Professional of the Year
ASSE's Central Florida Chapter recently honored Kelly Bernish of Orlando, Fla., with the Central Florida Chapter Safety Professional of the Year Award for her commitment to the chapter, workplace safety, and the OSH&E profession.
An ASSE member for 11 years, Bernish is a past-president of the ASSE Central Florida Chapter, chairs and helped found the ASSE Women in Safety Engineering (WISE) Common Interest Group, and serves as a board member on the ASSE Diversity Committee. In addition, she is a board member of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Safety & Maintenance and of the United Safety Council.
"Kelly has been an outstanding ASSE member, leader, and safety professional," said ASSE Central Florida Chapter President Jeff Spackman. "Her contributions to our chapter and to the Society have been immeasurable. We are pleased to have Kelly as a part of our Chapter and we were very happy to reward her commitment to our chapter with the Chapter Safety Professional of the Year Award. We look forward to her future contributions to the success of the organization and the profession."
Bernish currently serves as director, environmental, health and safety, Orlando Parks Group, for Sea World of Florida Inc. Previously, she served as manager of safety for Anheuser-Busch Inc., Fairfield Brewery in Fairfield, Calif., and director, environmental, health and safety for SeaWorld Ohio in Aurora, Ohio. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. In addition to her ASSE activities, Bernish also is a member of the American Standards for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F24 Committee, Alliance for Central Florida Safety, Leadership Orlando Alumni, Risk and Insurance Management Society, and Florida Executive Women.
