Missouri Honors Mining Companies with Best Safety Records

The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations' Mine and Cave Safety and Health Program, joining with the Southeast Missouri Mine Safety Association, presented awards April 5 in Farmington, Mo., for excelling in mine safety and health.

The Mine and Cave Safety and Health Program and SEMMSA presented 13 safety awards to mining, milling, smelting, and contracting companies; 11 companies were recognized for Best Safety Records and two for Most Improved. Best Safety Record Award recipients included Doe Run – Buick Resource Recycling; Bloomsdale Excavating; Capital Sand – Kathy Lee; Iron Mountain Trap Rock; Nestle Purina PetCare - Bloomfield; Big Cedar Quarry; ISP Minerals; Doe Run – Fletcher; Mississippi Lime – Peerless Mine; and Fred Weber – New Melle. Most Improved were SEMCO Portable and Mississippi Lime – Peerless Mine.

The agency said most recipients of the Best Safety Record Award have zero lost-time injuries. Other criteria for this award include the number of reportable hours and total injuries.
