Nearly 5,000 Fire Prevention Kits Focus on Lithium-Ion Battery Safety

Fire departments will hand out brochures, posters, magnets and activities at schools, open houses and community events.

Fire departments in 48 states will receive Fire Prevention Week kits as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and State Farm team up for the 10th year to promote the Oct. 4-10 observance.

State Farm is distributing nearly 5,000 kits, which are built around the 2026 theme, "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower." The campaign aims to teach people how to use, store and recharge lithium-ion-powered devices safely.

NFPA said damaged batteries, or ones charged improperly, can overheat, ignite or explode. NFPA noted that phones, tablets, laptops, tools, toys, e-bikes and scooters are among the everyday devices that run on these batteries.
