Five North Carolina Employers Honored for Roadway Safety Programs

Federal data show transportation incidents were the leading cause of North Carolina's workplace deaths in 2024, accounting for 39% of fatalities.

Employees and other roadway users are the focus of traffic safety programs that earned five North Carolina employers recognition from the National Safety Council.

Archer Western Construction, Barnhill Contracting Company and S.T. Wooten Corporation received Excellence in Traffic Safety awards. APAC Atlantic and Blythe Construction received Safety Recognition awards.

NSC cited measures including driver training, telematics, updated safety policies, vehicle safety technology, employee engagement and data analysis.

The awards come as transportation incidents remain the leading cause of fatal workplace injuries in North Carolina. Bureau of Labor Statistics data cited by NSC show such incidents accounted for 39% of the state's occupational fatalities in 2024.

The awards are part of the Our Driving Concern North Carolina Employer Traffic Safety program, which NSC operates in partnership with the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program. The program provides employers with education, training and resources intended to prevent roadway crashes.
