NATE Receives Grant for Telecom Heat Safety Training

A $95,000 OSHA grant will fund a curriculum on recognizing and responding to heat illness in communications infrastructure work.

NATE, the Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association, has received a $95,000 federal grant to develop heat illness prevention training for telecommunications workers.

The funding comes through OSHA’s Susan Harwood Training Grant Program. NATE plans to create a curriculum for employees and employers in the communications infrastructure industry, where work can take place in a range of outdoor and indoor conditions.

The training will address factors that raise the risk of heat illness, symptoms to watch for and steps to take during an emergency. It will also cover hydration, gradual adjustment to hot conditions and planning work around heat exposure.

NATE said it will test the curriculum in a pilot course before making it available to small employers and their workers.
