Chicago Contractor Faces $265K in OSHA Penalties
Inspectors found workers exposed to falls of up to 25 feet and cited violations involving protective equipment, ladders and stairways.

OSHA has proposed $265,868 in penalties against a Chicago-area construction employer after inspectors found workers performing residential roofing work without fall protection at two job sites.
The agency cited Martin Araujo, doing business as Araujo Construction Corp., following separate investigations of the Calumet City-based residential construction and carpentry employer. Carpenters and general laborers were installing roof rafters and roof sheathing while exposed to falls of up to 25 feet.
OSHA issued two willful violations for failing to provide fall protection while employees worked at elevated locations.
The agency also issued nine repeat violations involving missing head and eye protection, inadequate stairway handrails and ladders that did not extend at least 3 feet above access areas.
An additional serious violation involved the lack of safe access to a platform. OSHA also issued an other-than-serious violation for missing training certifications.
