Construction Industry Schedules Nationwide Stand Down for Suicide Prevention
Construction companies will pause work to hold a moment of silence and address mental health challenges across jobsites.

Construction companies across the nation will pause work for a synchronized minute of silence to highlight mental health awareness and pay tribute to lives lost to suicide.
The event is part of Construction Suicide Prevention Week, an annual effort intended to draw attention to high suicide rates within the building trades. Data from the Center for Construction Research and Training indicates that suicide claims nearly five times as many construction workers as on-the-job physical accidents. Additionally, Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows the suicide rate in construction is approximately four times higher than the national average.
Employers in the industry are being asked to temporarily halt jobsite operations to participate in the moment of silence. Beyond the pause in work, participating organizations are encouraged to distribute support resources, display pledge banners and educate workers on mental health tools.
With more than 8 million workers nationwide, industry leaders are pressing for mental health management to receive the same priority as traditional workplace safety protocols.
