A local petroleum terminal has received the state’s highest workplace safety honor for its comprehensive health and management systems.
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration awarded the Marathon Petroleum Romulus terminal with the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program STAR certification during a ceremony at the facility. The certification is reserved for employers that exceed basic state requirements to maintain exemplary workplace safety standards.
The 26-acre facility features two production buildings and 10 additional structures. To achieve the status, the site had to demonstrate strong management commitment, active employee involvement, regular worksite analysis, rigorous training and effective hazard prevention and control.
With this designation, the Romulus terminal becomes Marathon Petroleum’s sixth certified site in Michigan. The company now holds the highest number of these specialized workplace safety certifications of any employer in the state.
