The National Safety Council (NSC) is encouraging employers and workers to participate in the annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction, scheduled for May 4–8.
The initiative, led in partnership with OSHA and other safety organizations, aims to reduce fall-related injuries and fatalities by promoting hazard awareness, training and open dialogue on job sites. Falls remain a leading cause of death in the construction industry, accounting for a significant share of workplace fatalities each year.
During the stand-down, employers are encouraged to pause work to conduct safety meetings, equipment checks and training sessions focused on fall prevention. Activities may include reviewing proper use of fall protection systems, identifying hazards and reinforcing safe work practices.
NSC officials said the event provides an opportunity for organizations to strengthen safety culture and engage workers in conversations about risk and prevention. The council also emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to address fall hazards beyond the designated week.
The stand-down is part of a broader national effort to improve construction safety and reduce preventable workplace deaths.
