Boeing and NSC Expand Veteran Safety Scholarship Program

A $2.3 million commitment will increase annual safety certificate awards for U.S. veterans to 75 through 2029.

The NSC and Boeing have announced a $2.3 million multiyear commitment to expand the Advanced Safety Certificate scholarship program for U.S. military veterans.

The investment increases the number of annual scholarships from 50 to 75 starting in 2026. The program, funded through 2029, aims to transition veterans into environmental, health and safety (EHS) careers by removing financial barriers to professional certification.

Recipients receive full tuition for the NSC’s 12-day Advanced Safety Certificate curriculum. The training focuses on hazard prevention, safety management systems and foundational industry best practices. The scholarship also covers travel and registration for the NSC Safety Congress & Expo, providing veterans with direct access to networking and career development resources.

The initiative is designed to address the growing demand for qualified safety professionals while leveraging the leadership and risk-management skills veterans gain during service.

"Veterans have dedicated their lives to protecting others — and a commitment to protecting others is exactly what fuels the safety profession," said Lorraine Martin, NSC president and CEO.

The program aims to create a more robust pipeline for the EHS workforce. Beyond the classroom, scholarship winners receive career support to help them integrate into corporate and industrial safety roles.

"This scholarship reflects our shared belief that the skills veterans develop in service translate directly into safer workplaces," said Amy May, Boeing vice president of environment, health and safety.

The Advanced Safety Certificate is a nationally recognized credential that provides practitioners with the tools to implement proactive safety cultures within their organizations.

Applications for the current cycle are being accepted through May 4. Interested service members can apply through the National Safety Council website.
