ALI Urges Continued Vigilance Following National Ladder Safety Month

The American Ladder Institute emphasizes that proper equipment inspection and climbing techniques remain vital throughout the entire year.

As the 10th anniversary of National Ladder Safety Month concludes, the American Ladder Institute is reminding professionals and homeowners that ladder safety requires a year-round commitment.

The ALI, which develops safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, uses the annual March observance to highlight the importance of mindful ladder use. While the month features specific weekly themes, the organization maintains that safety begins long before a user takes the first step.

Key safety phases include selecting the appropriate ladder for the task, performing pre-use inspections, ensuring proper setup and maintaining safety during climbing, transport and storage.

To support these efforts, the ALI provides free sanctioned training through its online portal. The curriculum includes video classes and coursework designed to supplement existing corporate safety programs.

In addition to training initiatives, the ALI is currently collecting data for its 2026 Ladder Safety Training & Citations Survey. Open through April 17, the anonymous survey tracks trends in equipment use, training practices, workplace injuries and Occupational Safety and Health Administration citations. The resulting data will be used to inform future educational initiatives and industry standards.

Though ladders are common tools in both construction and residential settings, safety experts note they are often taken for granted. The ALI urges all users to remain focused on equipment inspections and safe climbing practices to prevent avoidable accidents on the jobsite and at home.
