CCOHS Urges National Observance for Day of Mourning

Workplaces encouraged to hold a moment of silence on April 28 to honor those lost to workplace tragedies and renew safety commitments.

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety is calling on workplaces across the country to observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on April 28.

The annual Day of Mourning serves as a solemn reminder of workers who have died, sustained injuries or experienced illness due to workplace incidents. The observance is intended to honor the fallen while reinforcing a national commitment to improving health and safety standards to prevent future tragedies.

In addition to the moment of silence, the CCOHS is encouraging organizations, workers and local communities to use the day to renew their dedication to protecting the workforce.

The CCOHS provides various resources and educational materials to help employers raise awareness about workplace hazards and the importance of preventative safety measures.
