Appleton Manufacturer Cited After Worker Injured in Machine Guarding Incident

OSHA cited Progressive Converting Inc. with repeat and serious violations totaling $280K in proposed penalties following a worker’s finger amputations.

The U.S. Department of Labor has cited Progressive Converting Inc., a paper products manufacturer based in Appleton, following three federal investigations that revealed serious safety and health violations, including failures in machine guarding and energy control procedure

OSHA launched its investigations after an employee sustained two fingertip amputations. Officials determined that the company failed to properly guard machinery, did not implement adequate lockout/tagout procedures, and failed to provide appropriate training for workers servicing and maintaining equipment.

OSHA issued three repeat, 13 serious, and three other-than-serious violations, proposing $280,110 in penalties.

The company has 15 business days from receipt of the citations to either comply, request an informal conference with OSHA, or contest the findings before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
