Comments Due Today on Keurig Settlement with CPSC

March 9 is the deadline for comments on Keurig Green Mountain, Inc.'s proposed settlement of a Consumer Product Safety Commission case involved alleged failure to report a defect and unreasonable risk of serious injury to CPSC immediately. The company has agreed to pay a $5.8 million civil penalty for not reporting the problems with Keurig MINI Plus Brewing Systems after receiving about 200 reports of hot water, coffee, and coffee grounds spraying out of the brewers between 2010 and 2014.

In more than 100 of those incidents, consumers suffered burn-related injuries to their faces, hands, and bodies, including some second- and third-degree burns, according to the agency.

Keurig also has agreed to implement and maintain a compliance program designed to ensure compliance with the Consumer Product Safety Act.

Keurig recalled about 6.6 million MINI Plus brewers in December 2014.
