OSHA Cites Construction Company after Serious Fall Injury

Paramo Daniela Construction was cited for willful, repeat, and other than serious violations.

An OSHA inspection determined that Paramo Daniela Construction of Brockton, Mass., committed willful, repeat and other-than-serious violations when a worker suffered serious injuries after a fall from almost 19 feet.

An investigation into the incident discovered the employer instructed the employee to disconnect his fall protection gear in order to pass roofing tiles to his employer and also failed to provide a guardrail system and/or safety net. The violations add up to $68,530 in proposed fines.

"Considering this employer has been cited five times in the past five years, he should be well aware that the employee was supposed to have been tied off," said Patrick Griffin, Providence OSHA area director. "The employer deliberately exposed the employee to a fall hazard instead of ensuring that employees followed safety requirements."
