Philadelphia Hospital Renovation Becomes Star Site
L.F. Driscoll Co. of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., is building an inpatient and diagnostic wing on The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia that will expand a busy cardiac center and one of the largest pediatric oncology centers in the country.
OSHA has certified construction management firm L.F. Driscoll Co., LLC's job site at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as a VPP Star site, meaning it is at the pinnacle of VPP. L.F. Driscoll, based in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., is building the West Tower Inpatient and Diagnostic Wing at the hospital, a project that will expand a cardiac center performing more than 1,000 procedures annually and also expand one of the largest pediatric oncology centers in the country.
According to L.F. Driscoll, part of the project is a new pediatric imaging center, which the firm describes as "designed to be electronically linked with other institutions around the globe. The new imaging center will include CT scanners, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Interventional Radiology and other advanced imaging technologies."
The number of operating rooms in the main hospital will increase from 13 to 24, and educational spaces used for training pediatric health care professionals are being renovated.
"L.F. Driscoll's commitment to ensuring a safe and healthful work environment for employees makes it most deserving of this honor," said John Hermanson, OSHA's regional administrator in Philadelphia.
OSHA said L.F. Driscoll employs 115 workers. For more on VPP, visit http://www.osha.gov/dcsp/compliance_assistance/index_programs.html.
