NFPA Offers 1600 Standard's 2007 Edition as Free Download

NFPA, at www.nfpa.org/assets/files//PDF/CodesStandards/1600-2007.pdf, is giving online visitors a free download of the 2007 edition of NFPA 1600, Standing on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs. The 57-page document bears the NFPA copyright and was approved as an American National Standard on Dec. 20, 2006.

The 1600 standard had two previous editions dated 2000 and 2004. Those focused on four areas: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. This 2007 edition adds a fifth area, prevention, "as a distinct aspect of the program," according to the 2007 edition's discussion of the standard's origin and development, which adds that this change aligns the standard with the current practices of risk management, security, and loss prevention.

This edition contains five chapters and six annex sections, including Annex E, Incident Management System.
