NSC Backs Coalition for Safety Compliance
NSC supports a new ISF report advocating for workplace safety beyond compliance, emphasizing risk-based programs that drive better business outcomes.

The National Safety Council (NSC), a member of the Intersociety Forum (ISF), is supporting a recent report that advocates for workplace safety practices that go beyond regulatory compliance. The report, titled Core Principles of Modern Occupational EHS Practice, highlights how organizations can achieve better business outcomes through comprehensive, risk-based safety programs.
The findings align with NSC’s mission to eliminate preventable workplace deaths across the United States.
"This data confirms what safety professionals have long understood: investing in worker protection not only saves lives but also drives economic growth and operational excellence," said Mark Chung, executive vice president of safety leadership & advocacy at NSC.
The coalition’s research is particularly relevant at a time when workplace safety statistics remain stagnant despite technological advancements. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2023, one worker died every 99 minutes on the job.
The ISF report outlines a framework centered on three key elements:
- Integrating worker well-being into safety standards
- Implementing comprehensive risk management systems
- Utilizing leading indicators to prevent incidents before they occur
The report also quantifies how strong safety cultures lead to higher employee engagement, reduced turnover and improved productivity, making workplace safety a strategic business priority.
To encourage action, the report includes specific steps for businesses of all sizes and invites organizations to endorse these principles via QR code. The coalition also plans to present these insights to federal regulators once OSHA’s new leadership is confirmed.
NSC urges all employers to review the report and explore how evidence-based approaches can enhance safety performance and organizational resilience.
