G8 Wearable That Sends Firefighters' Gas Readings to Commanders Wins Innovation Award

The device combines gas monitoring with lone worker features and two-way communication, and it gives the company a second straight Firehouse award after its EXO 8 area monitor won in 2025.

Firefighters entering hazardous atmospheres no longer have to rely on a detector that alarms only for the wearer, Blackline Safety said Oct. 14 in announcing that its G8 wearable had won a 2026 Firehouse Innovation Award.

G8 works with Blackline Live software to pull together gas detection, lone worker safety features, two-way communication and field data, relaying readings, alerts and position to command staff so they can coordinate a quicker response.

G8 and Blackline Live also won 2026 OH&S Industrial Hygiene Awards in the IoT Connected Devices and Software categories. Blackline is based in Calgary, Canada.
