OSHA Forms Alliance With Four Safety Groups to Prevent Serious Injuries and Fatalities

The agreement, which is not legally binding, covers joint training, technical briefings for federal and state OSHA staff, and resources in multiple languages on spotting and preventing SIF risks.

OSHA has formed a two-year alliance with the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), the National Safety Council and the University of Colorado Boulder's Construction Safety Research Alliance to help employers and workers identify and prevent serious injuries and fatalities (SIFs), according to the agreement.

The groups plan to develop SIF prevention resources in several languages and formats and to hold joint training sessions at conferences and other events. They will also give technical briefings to federal OSHA, State Plan and On-Site Consultation staff, and will use injury, illness and exposure data to choose where to focus outreach.

A team with members from each organization will meet once or twice a year to share activities and track results. Any participant can leave the alliance with 30 days' written notice.
