OSHA Gives ‘Star’ Designation under VPP to Colorado Construction Contractor

Guarantee Electrical Contracting LLC’s status will remain for three years.

A Colorado construction contractor is joining the less-than-2,000 state and federal sites recognized with a “star” designation under OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

According to a news brief, Guarantee Electrical Contracting LLC’s new status that applies to “the company’s mobile workforce at its Colorado worksites” is the highest designation an employer can receive under the program, which recognizes employers that have excellent health and safety management systems.

Per the brief, one of the steps the contractor takes is to point out hazards through daily safety huddles. “Recognizing hazards and preventing injuries makes good business sense,” OSHA Regional Administrator Jennifer Rous in Denver said in the brief. In its health and wellness program, Guarantee Electrical Contracting LLC also incorporated “mental health awareness and suicide prevention,” according to the Department of Labor.

The company will retain the status for three years.

“It takes real commitment to workplace safety by an employer to earn Star designation in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program. Guarantee Electrical Contracting shows how company culture, management commitment, employee engagement and close working relationships with unions can create and maintain a safer and healthier workplace,” Rous also said in the brief.
