Texas Teenager's Research Leads to Discovery of Potential Coronavirus Treatment

The Frisco teenager won $25,000 for her finding of a molecule that can bind to the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

A North Texas teenager discovered a potential treatment for COVID-19, which earned her the title of America’s Top Young Scientist, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Fourteen-year-old Anika Chebrolu won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge and the “Improving Lives Award” for conducting research that involved screening molecules for their ability to bind against a spike protein.

Chebrolu discovered a compound that could bind to the coronavirus, which could potentially act as a treatment for COVID-19. She began the research after suffering from the flu in 2019.
