ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Columbia Southern University (CSU), a leading online educator, is pleased to introduce four new degree program concentrations to its academic catalog.

The degree program concentrations offer curricula based on current industry trends, applicant and student requests and consultations with subject-matter experts. Concentrations include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health – Construction Safety
  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health – Oil and Gas
  • Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice – Forensics
  • Master of Business Administration – Entrepreneurship

In creating the new entrepreneurship concentration for its MBA program, CSU is offering insight to individuals seeking self-employment and business ownership, which is anticipated to be approximately 10.3 million Americans by 2026, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“We are very proud of the new concentrations as they provide students with options in relation to their education. The concentrations also ensure that our programs remain current and graduates entering the field will have the most up-to-date information available to help them be successful,” said CSU Provost and Chief Academic Officer Barry Goldstein, Ph.D. “CSU values the adaptability and flexibility that our educational programs offer to students and these concentrations will provide more opportunities in each respective discipline.”

The occupational safety and health bachelor’s degree concentrations address two of the most prominent areas in the industry: construction and oil and gas. CSU’s occupational safety and health degree programs meet the educational requirements mandated by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals to be Qualified Academic Programs. QAP graduates may apply for the Graduate Safety Practitioner® designation. Once obtained, this designation eliminates the need to sit for the Associate Safety Professional® exam prior to becoming a Certified Safety Professional®. These programs are also board-approved through the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management.

The university’s forensics concentration in the criminal justice program will allow students to learn more about forensic psychology and overarching crime scene investigative procedures, relevant topics within the field of criminal justice at this time.

Goldstein added that the university has also updated the emergency medical services management concentration in the Bachelor of Science in health care administration program. The concentration now focuses on the emergency medical services field, tying in such topics as anatomy and physiology, in addition to emergency response operations, management, and planning for emergencies. As such, the concentration is titled emergency medical services.

CSU has also created three undergraduate certificates: emergency management, cybersecurity and psychology. These certificate programs are available only to students who are enrolled in a degree program and were created to supplement that educational experience.
