Coast Guard Surveys Oil Spill in Halifax River
The spill was from a tugboat that was leaking oil into the Florida river.
The U.S. Coast Guard conducted a first-light survey of a tugboat oil spill on the Halifax River in Florida on Feb. 9. The boat Tutahaca was reportedly leaking bilge oil into the river.
A helicopter crew was directed to launch an assessment of the incident. Later, a Marine Environmental Response and Sea Tow deployed 600 feet of containment boom and more than 1,500 feet of absorbent boom around the affected area.
An investigation into the cause of the leak is ongoing.
