France Recalls Deficient Smoke Detector
The Chick-a-Dee brand detectors are insufficiently sensitive to smoke and alarm at too low a volume.
Judging it to be a serious risk, France has ordered the recall of a Chick-a-Dee brand smoke detector because it is insufficiently sensitive to smoke and alarms at too low a volume, according to the June 14 weekly recall notice from the European Commission's RAPEX team.
The recalled model numbers are CHI-02DZ, CHI-02DW, CHI-02DB, CHI-02DP, with batch number/barcode: 8718104100060. They are optical smoke detectors in the shape of a bird and include batteries. They were manufactured in April 2011 in China, according to the report.
The report says they fail to detect commonly occurring types of fire and have been voluntarily withdrawn from the market and recalled.
