AIHA Pledges $90K to TLV/BEI Fund
The Foundation for Occupational Health and Safety created the fund in 2008 to ensure financial support for the ACGIH-developed Threshold Limit Values and Biological Exposure Indices.
INDIANAPOLIS -– The American Industrial Hygiene Association has pledged $90,000 to the Foundation for Occupational Health and Safety's Sustainable TLV®/BEI® Fund, which the foundation created four years ago to develop sustainable financial support ensuring the continued development of Threshold Limit Values (TLVs®) and Biological Exposure Indices (BEIs®).
In addition, the foundation has pledged to match the AIHA donation and is actively seeking donations from industrial hygienists, attendees of AIHce 2012 learned during one of the general sessions here.
A foundation board member also announced that FOHS has created the Roy M. Buchan Award in honor of the influential industrial hygienist, who was an AIHA fellow and its 2005 president. Buchan, a CIH and Colorado State University professor emeritus who died in October 2011, supported industrial hygiene's growth and progress around the world.
The TLVs® and BEIs® are science-based occupational exposure guidelines rather than mandatory limits; the fund was founded because of court challenges from industry groups that were prolonged and expensive for ACGIH to defend.
