Thousands of Amateur-Built Aircraft Users Answer Survey

NTSB's chairman thanked more than 5,000 owners, operators, and builders of experimental amateur-built aircraft who have completed the survey by the Experimental Aircraft Association.

The experimental amateur-built aircraft community has responded strongly to an information request last month by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Experimental Aircraft Association: More than 5,000 owners, operators, and builders of E-AB aircraft have completed an online survey asking how these aircraft are built and operated.

NTSB is doing a comprehensive study of the safety of this category. Chairman Deborah A.P. Hersman said the strong response is welcome.

"We are very encouraged by the impressive number of responses to the EAA survey," she said. "The more information that is provided to EAA about how the more than 33,000 E-AB aircraft in the U.S. are built and operated, the better we'll be able to understand the safety issues that are so important to this innovative community."

The survey is open through Aug. 31.
