CEO Anil Mathur of Alaska Tanker Company is scheduled to receive the American Society of Safety Engineers' 2010-2011 President's Award on June 12 prior to the Safety 2011 conference in Chicago. The company has its headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

Mathur told the employees in a January 2011 letter that they had achieved the worldwide tanker industry's best safety record -- nine years without a lost-time injury -- through a culture of caring and "curiosity that supports root cause analysis."

Angelo Pinheiro, MS, CSP, CRSP, CPEA, also is a recent honoree. He received the 2011 Society of Petroleum Engineers Gulf Coast Regional Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Social Responsibility Award on May 17 at a banquet in Houston. Pinheiro is a senior HES professional for Marathon Oil Corp. in Houston and a member of the OH&S editorial advisory board.

Pinheiro is a professional member of both ASSE and SPE who has served as technical editor for some of the latter society's journals. He is the American Petroleum Institute's primary representative on the ANSI Z10 committee overseeing the American National Standard for Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems.
