Brasfield & Gorrie Transitions to Type II Head Protection for Workers

The construction firm has adopted enhanced helmets to reduce head injury risks.

Brasfield & Gorrie, one of the largest privately held construction firms in the U.S., has fully transitioned to Type II safety helmets to protect its more than 4,000 employees.

According to a recent release, the shift was finalized in September, highlighting the company’s emphasis on worker safety. Brasfield & Gorrie’s decision stems from the advanced protective features of Type II helmets compared to traditional hard hats.

Whereas Type I helmets primarily protect the top of the head, Type II models cover the sides and back, incorporating a chinstrap to keep the helmet in place during accidents. This additional coverage is designed to reduce the risk of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).

One of the options available for employees is the STUDSON SHK-1 Full Brim helmet, which offers enhanced impact absorption features and heat dissipation. The helmet also integrates digital health data through an NFC chip, allowing first responders to access critical information quickly in case of an emergency.

“Within an industry steeped in tradition like construction, Brasfield & Gorrie has taken a courageous step to prioritize head safety, emphasizing its ongoing commitment to developing a world-class culture of safety across all aspects of its business,” STUDSON CEO Ryan Barnes said in a statement. “The STUDSON SHK-1 Full Brim helmets will deliver a stylish yet comfortable option to its employees and subcontractors that exceeds industry safety standards. It’s thrilling to work with general contractors like Brasfield & Gorrie to transition to Type II safety helmets.”
